Announces
 Louisiana Invitational Tournament
 by Otha H. Barham

Saturday, September 26,1998 - Pelham, AL .... The Women's Bass Fishing Association (WBFA) has
announced its next bass tournament, the 1998 "Harvest Moon" Louisiana Invitational, to be held on the
Red River in Louisiana. The host cities are Alexandria and Pineville, Louisiana. This final WBFA event
of the 1998 calendar year is scheduled for October 15, 16 and 17, with practice days of October 12, 13
and 14. Weigh-ins on the 15th and 16th will start at 3 pm. The final weigh-in will start at 1 pm on
Saturday, October 17th.
All women bass anglers are invited to compete for over $43,000 in prizes and prize money. You do not
have to be a professional bass angler, nor do you have to bring a boat, to compete and win.
Tournament Director and CEO of WBFA, Willie Cook, said, "With the Louisiana Invitational, we are
moving ahead into our second year of the Tour looking forward to continued growth and service to the
deserving women of bass fishing. October on the Red River could produce some of the best fishing of
the year and this should be a fun tournament."
The Louisiana event follows WBFA's Championship Tournament at Nashville's Percy Priest Lake,
September 13-19, 1998. Angler of the Year Sherrie Brubaker of Westlake, Louisiana, bested a field of
31 lady anglers competing for the championship to claim the title of World Champion. The tournament
was held at Nashville Shores Resort and featured an Exposition of outdoor gear manufactures, a youth
casting contest and a performance by the well known country music star, Bobby Bare.
The Alexandria City Park will be the launch and weigh-in site for the Louisiana Invitational. The
Alexandria-Pineville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau is cooperating and assisting with the
tournament as are area businesses. Hampton Inn has been named as Housing Headquarters for the
event.
Great bass fishing is a tradition in the flooded countryside around the Red River and many WBFA
members and their families have visited this well known fishery on previous outings to enjoy its rewards.
A host of them will return this October for the Louisiana Invitational.
